Evolution of Gaming : Graphics vs Gameplay
May 31, 2007
If you are old enough to remember the early days of computer gaming you know there were a lot of great games that were fun because of the exceptional gameplay and not just the graphics. Gaming started to become a little more popular in the 90s once people started buying computers. In the early 90s games like Maniac Mansion, X-com 1, and Civilization were extremely hot because of their addictive unique gameplay. Today gaming is mainstream and marketed towards a mass audience. In order to market to everyone, many games these days focus on the graphics and special effects rather than unique gameplay. You see many games that seem to be carbon copies of each other with slightly different twists.

RPG: Table and Computer
May 29, 2007
It’s not a secret that table RPG games are not so popular as they used to be. However a certain number of amateurs are still fond of them. What is so particular about a pasteboard box or a book with rules? It seems that all the advantages have their " younger computer brothers": no manual calculations, no bricks ( the number of which is from one to almost 20). In general, no additional efforts are needed- just relax, play and don’t worry. But nothing of the kind- groups of maniacs with burning eyes run to the special shop( if there is any), buy another book, and having met in some dark place in the evening, start to crunch with pens and tinkle the dice.
Why are these poor things so attracted by this desperately ancient way of entertainment?
Let’s try to answer this question by displaying the most similar and different features of table and computer RPG.
Firstly, any RPG is a Role Paying Game, which is supposed to have a character, and a system of his development. This feature is typical for both the "brothers". The character as the player’s realization in the created RPG world is very important. Your playing capabilities depend on his features.
Review - Sony PSP
May 28, 2007
I’m fairly certain there are folks at Nintendo feeling some serious self-loathing right about now. You see, back in the mid-90’s Nintendo contracted Sony to develop a CD-ROM drive for the Super Nintendo. As the project progressed, a number of factors (one of them being the spectacular failure of the Sega CD and its’ followup the 32X) led Nintendo to can the project. Sony was left holding the bag, with a CD-based gaming system but no one to sell it to.
Making proverbial lemonade from lemons, Sony turned around and produced what is perhaps the most successful game console in history, the Sony Playstation. The result? For the first time in history, Nintendo took second place in the video game console market, while fellow rival Sega got out of the console business altogether.
One segment of the gaming market Nintendo still has a stranglehold on, however, is the handheld sector. Beginning with the original Gameboy, the name Nintendo has been a veritable synonym for handheld gaming. This dominant streak has held sway through several subsequent iterations of the Gameboy. Some have claimed Nintendo’s dual screen DS handheld system to be a revolutionary step forward in portable gaming. Others have decried it as gimmicky. Whichever side you fall on, there’s no doubt Nintendo execs are fingering their collars as Sony prepares to rain on their parade with their new Playstation Portable - aka the PSP.

How To Save Time, Energy, and Money by Renting Your DVDs and Games Online
May 26, 2007
As a bit of a movie buff I recently discovered that the best way to rent movies and games these days is online using one of the Online DVD and Game Rental Services.
If you’re into renting movies or games these services simply can’t be beat for their time saving convenience and value.
The two biggest and probably most well known services are Netflix and Blockbuster.
Though they both work essentially the same way Netflix seems to be the largest of the online DVD rental services. Currently boasting over 3 million members.
For a very reasonable monthly fee I believe either one of these services will more than meet your DVD and Game Renting needs.
Some of the great benefits offered include:
- No late fees. Just do the math on this one alone and I think you’ll see the value of using either one of these online services.
- Over 40,000 Movie Titles to choose from. Everything from the newest of the new releases to all of the classics.
- Free shipping both ways. To you and also on the return.

Popular Electronic Games - They Are Not Just For Kids Anymore
May 25, 2007
Superheroes battle monsters and space invaders in fast action games. Players take on the role of these superheroes in epic battles. In other games players race cars, boats, motorcycles, helicopters and planes against villains and even less evil opponents to win high stakes races.
Game titles such as Burnout3: Takedown, ESPN, NHL ? 2K5, Silent Hill 4: The Room, Terminator 3: The Redemption, Donkey Kong 3, and, Pokemon have joined the national lexicon as kids have flocked to the lure of electronic games.
Parents, teachers, preachers and politicians, have criticized and in some cases even banned electronic games. Electronic games have been blamed for poor grades, poor conduct and even poor health. If you listen long enough, electronic games are responsible for all of the problems our young people experience today.
One thing is certain. Kids love them. They buy and play them in ever increasing numbers. Electronic games are here to stay.
People have been trying to play games on computers almost since the days of the very first computer. As early as 1950, Claude Shannon, a mathematician and engineer, believed that computers could be programmed to play chess in competition with humans. He became intrigued with the concept of artificial intelligence. In pursuit of this idea researchers and scientists designed crude games that could be played on the huge and clumsy computers of the 1950s and 1960s.
Review: Samurai Jack — Code of the Samurai
May 24, 2007
Fans of Genndy Tartakovsky’s “Samurai Jack,” which wrapped last year on the Cartoon Network, enjoy the quirky storytelling and stunning visuals, also the martial arts sequences. Naturally, it was only a matter of time before the online gaming industry turned the time-traveling samurai’s adventures into video games.
I haven’t tried any of the games available for gaming console systems, confining my efforts instead to Cartoon Network’s own Web Site. Its Games section features six games based on “Samurai Jack,” including “The Way of the Warrior,” in which the young samurai trains through several simulations for his eventual battle with the shape-shifting evil sorcerer Aku (deliciously voiced by veteran actor Mako in the series and console games).
The other games invariably feature Jack battling Aku’s minions–robots, beetle insects, and the like. Two of the games feature a final showdown with Aku.
“Code of the Samurai” was a tie-in with a Samurai Jack marathon, so when you access the game, the interface asks you “Enter Code or Play.” I advise pushing Play since the original marathon was two years ago.
Once you get into the game, you have to fight through three treacherous levels before you even get to Aku.
